After 20+ hours of being on the plane and in airports… not to mention one nearly lost suitcase and being told vegetarian meals were not order (which they were... but no worries, I was given brie and fruit from first class)… we’ve made it! Finally Down Under… in the land of kangaroos, wallabies and Tims Tams!
After finding a place to eat (Nando’s.. an England favorite of Piyusha’s and well, let’s just say it scored a 2 out of 10 in Parimal’s book but he did like the vege pita better than his meal), we ended up in bed at 8:30 p.m. It was a long day; we even lost a day of sleep (since August 1, 2010 didn’t exist to us!).
Our first real day in Melbourne was a trip on the Great Ocean Road (GOR), starting at 7 a.m. About 2 hours out of the city, we spotted wild kangaroos (which, yes, Piyusha scared away with her need to be the paparazzi) and even koalas! Our tour guide, Grace, was fantastic. She even brewed tea by spinning it around in a bucket… and said “well you see it’s a little thing called gravity that does the trick.” Surrounded by both the ocean and the Australian country side (filled with sheep, more kangaroo, cows and horses), it was long but relaxing drive to the 12 Apostles. We discovered a yummy native drink called “Lemon Lime and Bitters”… which is just that, lemon and lime juice and a splash of bitters and Lamingtons!! Bite-size sponge cakes wrapped in chocolate and with coconut… YUM!
The 12 Apostles were amazing… So grand; when you take it all in, it all probably started with a small crack millions of years ago.
Grace, our tour guide, was fantastic at telling us local stories of the sites we saw. We saw London Bridge, the Gorge and Gibson’s Point and managed to squeeze in a walk through the rain forest.
So off to wandering through Downtown Melbourne! Till next time!
Oh yes, the beginning of the trip count:
Injuries – Parimal: 0, Piyusha: 0 (shocker I know)
Items lost: Parimal: 0, Piyusha: 0

woo hoo! can't wait to see more adventures!
