Steamy Melbourne

After throwing ourselves straight into a day of site seeing, we decided to spend the next day exploring Melbourne… visit the Docklands (the up and coming part of Melbourne), the Royal Botanical Gardens, maybe even say hello to the animals at the zoo! Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side so we ended up just wandering around. Melbourne is like any big city… people rushing from one place to another, the inner city kids out and about on field trips (though we did wonder what they were doing out at 2 p.m.), cars and taxis galore.

Our first stop: The Tim Burton Museum… a must for those that love “A Nightmare Before Christmas” (Piyusha’s choice definitely). There was a “deep” psychological conversation about how the great mind of Tim Burton works (ha). Followed by lunch at Chocolate Buddha… super yummy! The tempura pumpkin roll was great! After walking around for awhile… we saw Target! Now you know we had to stop. Final verdict: our Super Target rocks… their clothes selection was better but they didn’t even have eye drops!

So we decided to get all dressed up for the casino that night, but then the fire alarm at the hotel goes off… sirens, a lady on the intercom saying it’s being investigated… We head to the lobby and end up in the elevator with a man without shoes on. Hmmm… interesting. He starts rambling (in a thick Aussie accent) about how he’s had a horrible day… his bike’s light went out so he had to come back for an extra night… and then he was soaked so… are you ready for this? He decides to dry his clothes in the microwave… MICROWAVE. Therefore, the steam sets off the fire alarm, bringing two fire engines and 5 firefighters to our hotel. Poor guy.

We ended our Melbourne journey at the casino, eating pizza… and watching a fire show. Similar (sort of) to the water show at the Bellagio in Vegas, the Crown casino has these columns that shoot out fire in patterns on the hour… apparently they’ve had to cut back because there was a decrease in local pigeons and an increase in roasted pigeons.

Well, after all our adventures in Melbourne, it’s off to New Zealand we go… I’m (Piyusha) hoping to run into Frodo, but it may be a bit farfetched… hmmm
